Be Still

Sometimes it’s hard to keep going when you can’t see light at tunnel’s end.

But you’re on this train ride nonetheless. Surely it can’t be much longer before you emerge from this tunnel into the light of day. And finally, you start to see it – the light just up ahead. Oh thank God, you’re almost there.

But just when it’s within reach, a rockslide comes out of nowhere and blocks your exit. You’re forced to take a detour. Your spirits that had been raised become suddenly deflated.

And it doesn’t happen just once, but over and over again. You‘re forced to take detour after detour, until your destination is nowhere in sight. Instead of getting closer, you seem to be traveling farther and farther away. You don’t even know where you’re going anymore.

Hope starts to wain, and despair tries to set in. You’re so tired of this ride. How do you keep going when all you want to do is get off this crazy train already?

You do this – you sit still and trust the Engineer who is running the train. You place all your hope in He who is your only hope, in He who is Hope.

All of the obstacles coming against you and forcing you to detour – they’re not preventing you from reaching your destination, rather they are redirecting you to your intended destination.

And the Engineer – He knows where you’re going. He knows where He’s taking you. He will get you there. He will see you through.

You need only to be still and trust the Engineer. Be still and trust that He knows the way. Be still and know that He is God.

“He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”” Psalm 46‬:‭10‬ ‭(NIV‬‬)

“Be still before the Lord, all mankind, because he has roused himself from his holy dwelling.” Zechariah‬ ‭2‬:‭13‬ ‭(NIV‬‬)

“Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes. Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret—it leads only to evil. For those who are evil will be destroyed, but those who hope in the Lord will inherit the land.” Psalm 37‬:‭7‬-‭9‬ ‭‭(NIV‬‬)

“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” Exodus‬ ‭14‬:‭14‬ ‭(NIV‬‬)
