Jesus Loves You

Lately I’ve been thinking about songs we sang in children’s church when I was young. Songs such as:

  • “Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so… Jesus loves me He who died, heaven’s gate to open wide. He will wash away my sin… Yes, Jesus loves me…”
  • “I’ve got the joy, joy, joy, joy, down in my heart… And I’m so happy, so very happy, I’ve got the love of Jesus in my heart…”
  • “I’m glad I’m a Christian, I’m glad I’m a Christian, I’m glad I’m a Christian, and trusting in the Lord…”
  • “He’s got the whole world in His hands, He’s got the whole world in His hands…”
  • “This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine… Hide it under a bushel, no, I’m gonna let it shine… Let it shine ’til Jesus comes, I’m gonna let it shine…”

These little songs pretty much sum up what the Christian life is meant to be all about: Jesus loves me. He died to save me from my sins so that I can join Him in heaven one day. I have joy because I have the love of Jesus in my heart. I’m glad I’m a Christian. I’m trusting in the Lord. He has the whole world in His hands. I’m not going to hide my light – I’m going to let it shine ’til Jesus comes.

Yes, Jesus loves me. And Jesus loves you. This I know.

He loves us. Oh, how He loves us.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” John‬ ‭3‬:‭16-17‬ ‭(ESV)‬‬

“Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy.” 1 Peter 1:8 (NIV)

“They will have no fear of bad news; their hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord.” Psalm 112:7 (NIV)

“He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.” Hebrews 1:3 (ESV)

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:16 (NKJV)
