Better Than Normal
I was recently asked how I was doing and if I was getting back to normal. I replied, “I don’t think I’ll ever be back to normal. I’m going to be better than normal. Normal is overrated.”
It’s not just something I said. My life has been anything but normal for the past several years. I know we all experienced this to varying degrees after 2020 rolled around, but my life had left normal even before that. And increasingly so every year since.
Many times I found myself longing for a sense of normalcy. I didn’t think that was too much to ask – just normal, everyday things that many people have, like what I once had.
But God didn’t give me that. And though it often didn’t feel like it at the time, what I received turned out to be better. I actually wrote a poem about this just last week – I haven’t felt led to share it yet, but I’m sure I will in due time.
What I do feel led to share now is this. Normal never changed the world.
When Jesus was on earth, He didn’t live a normal life, and He certainly changed the world. The same can be said of Jesus’ disciples. And that is what we are called to as Christ followers.
So if you find yourself feeling like life is anything but normal, perhaps you are right where you need to be. Perhaps like me, God is preparing you for something more, for something better – something better than normal.
